Benidorm’s central Avenida del Mediterráneo completed with trees providing ‘3-4°C’ cooler temperatures
Roadworks on a central section of Benidorm’s Avenida del Mediterráneo have reached completion last Sunday after nearly two years of activity.
The area of road between the Plaza de la Hispanidad and the Avenida de Europa has finally been turned into a pedestrianised zone with large, shaded areas that offer temperatures ‘three to four degrees lower’ than surrounding streets.
Benidorm’s councillor for mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, celebrated the once busy area ‘full of cars’ is now able to be enjoyed by ‘people’.
The announcement last Sunday came during the European Mobility Week, where European countries put a spotlight on zero-emission travel.
