​Just £500 stands ​​between 26-year-old cancer patient Laura and a flight to the UK to see her son after two critical months in an Alicante hospital.​​​

Laura Boon, from Stoke-on-Trent, was separated from her six-year-old son after being struck down with cervical cancer in Benidorm, where she works as a barmaid.

She has been hospitalised since the beginning of August and, despite being referred to an oncologist in the UK, has been told a specially equipped plane to fly her back will cost £15,000.

A GoFundMe fundraiser to bring her home is currently at £14,500.

A statement reads:

“On 28th January, Laura was diagnosed with stage 3c1 cervical cancer.

“Laura has lived in Spain with her son for a few years and was planning to return home for her treatment to ensure that she was able to have someone to look after her son, but then Lockdown happened so she was unable to have her treatment at home.

“After extensive and intrusive treatment, Laura has suffered some severe side effects due to radio therapy and has been referred to an oncologist in the UK. But she has been told that she’s only allowed to fly with a medical crew which will cost £15,000 as a commercial flight will be unable to address her needs.

“Laura is in need of constant blood transfusions and is incredibly weak at this stage, her son is now in the UK with Laura’s family and he so desperately wants to see his Mum. Laura is showing little to no improvement in Spain and needs the support of her family and friends.
