“Dangerous” and “exposed” – readers say Benidorm bike lanes ‘to blame’ for woman’s death
Commentators have called Benidorm bike lanes ‘dangerous’ saying they leave ‘exposed’ at key junctions and crossings.
“The problem here is the location of the BIKE LANES” one reader wrote after news broke of a young woman, 29, who was killed yesterday morning in Benidorm by a bus.
She was riding her electric scooter to work around 8.30am when the bus hit her near Benidorm’s Playa Poniente. An ambulance pronounced her dead at the scene.
Pictures of the scene show the bus, turning off Avinguda Murla to Avinguda de la Vila Joiosa, seemingly on the bike path. Initial investigations are also looking at whether the driver entered the bike lane, local media have reported.

“I go past this junction every day. Bikepath users have preference, but the junction has a large amount of cars, motorbikes and buses and their signalling is very doubtful. It’s so doubtful it puts every kind of vehicle at risk at the junction, in this case, the most fragile… My condolences to the family.”
