Benidorm will not be locked down in near future – Valencian president says
Benidorm will NOT be locked down in the coming days.
President of the Valencian Community, Ximo Puig, today told reporters today he is not planning to call a state of alarm as coronavirus cases remain ‘under control’ here.
Government statistics published last night show:
- The Valencian Community has recorded 90 cases per 100,000 people in last two weeks.
- Spain has recorded 173 cases per 100,000 people in last two weeks.
Puig noted his region has ‘half’ the case load of the whole country.
In fact, just a handful of regions in Spain are carrying the majority of cases:
- Aragon has recorded 417 cases per 100,000 people in last two weeks.
- Madrid has recorded 310 cases per 100,000 people in last two weeks.
- Basque Country has recorded 299 cases per 100,000 people in last two weeks.
It follows yesterday’s announcement by Pedro Sanchez to give Spain’s 17 autonomous regions power to call their own state of alarm.
