Benidorm region shows lowest COVID-19 case load in all of Spain
Benidorm is currently at the bottom of Spain’s COVID-19 infection tables.
The Valencian Community – which includes Alicante province and Benidorm city – showed the lowest COVID-19 case load in all of Spain in last night’s health update.
The autonomous region registered 101 cases per 100,000 population over the last 14 days.
This is way below Madrid’s case load (775 per 100,000), the worst-affected region in Spain, and below any other of Spain’s 17 autonomous regions.
Benidorm city itself has a case load of 134 cases per 100,000 over the last 14 days.
However, in a city of 69,000 people, this translates to just 92 positives in the last two weeks.
A region’s case load per 100,000 over a 14-day peroid is also known as Accumulated Incidence and is used as a primary benchmark for localised lockdowns and international travel restrictions.
Spain’s Health Ministry previously used 50 cases per 100,000 as a limit before imposing restrictions during the post-lockdown ‘new normal’ phase.
