Thousands Could Be Stuck Abroad As Thomas Cook Collapse

Worldwide tour operator Thomas Cook frantically struggle to raise an additional 200m to save them from insolvency and satisfy the Fosun deal. Thomas Cook, the oldest travel tour operator must secure the $200 million by Friday, as a result of a last minute demand from around 12 banks including Lloyds, Barclay and RBS.

On top of the 900 million pound package that was due to be finalized, the banks have been telling the tour operator Thomas Cook that they need the money to act as a contingency plan through the winter season.

Thomas cook risk going bust after Friday if they are unable to find the extra funds, there are literally tens of thousands of holiday makers travelling under the Thomas Cook tour operator.

Should this be the case, thousands of holiday makers could find themselve’s stranded in wait for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) which is the government backed regulator to pick up a cost of around 600 million pounds in the repatriating of British holiday makers that are currently travelling with Thomas Cook.

The travel company that employs around 20.000 members of staff and has more than 6000 stores in the UK suffered as their customer swiftly sided with the Internet to make their bookings unsure of their ability to satisfy nearly a 2 billion dept.

Its not the first time Thomas Cook have found themselves in trouble. 8 years ago, the well known travel company nearly collapsed as a result of taking out a large loan in order to survive.

Tour operator Thomas Cook has also been hit with several other complications such as increased hotel charges and high price jet fuel.

What is the Fonsun Deal all about?

Thomas cook confirmed in August the details of the 900 million pounds rescue deal would essentially pass full control of its complete tour business to Fosun which is the owner of Club Med holiday resort chain.

The investor would receive a 75% cut in the deal together with a 25% holding in the airline business, his investment was 450 million pounds. Secondary to this, another 450 million would come from the company’s bondholders and banks, this would mean that they would then own 25% of the package tour division, and 75% of the airlines.

On the 27th September, a vote on that process will take place. The crunch vote was delayed earlier this week to give the tour operator more time to smooth out obstacles to its rescue package.

Last week, Thomas Cook stated that “They were running out of money” and that they needed to finalize the deal as soon as possible.

Thomas cook said that the cash injection would help them over the winter period when bookings are at their lowest. However, their lenders have decided the company needs only extra contingency funding in order to keep it going through the quiet winter period.

By October, Thomas Cook must secure some form of funding because it has trading commitments and are in contract with many suppliers.

Thomas Cook are now considering other alternative options in the event that the Fosun deal falls through, this could include the sale of its Nordic Airline company to operators Triton.

Spain Floods & Six Dead As Horrific Storm’s Head West

– states Spain’s acting prime minister Pedro Sanchez after several victims lost their life to what is reported to be one of the worst Spain floods and storms in over a century.

Military emergency units bravely risk their life’s in “The storm of the century” to as Spain floods, to save those who otherwise may not have been so lucky.

The “gota fria” (cold drop) causes havoc as hundreds of residents and military combat around the clock to prevent further destruction.

In Almeria, the initial tragedy was a man killed after his vehicle became trapped in a tunnel that that filled with large torrents of water in a “matter of minutes”.

A policeman at the scene managed to rescue two of the three people in the car, however “one occupant couldnt be rescued and remained inside”, Mayor Ramon Fernandez-Pacheco of Almeria told news radio Cadena Ser.

Unfortunately, the victim was not the only one to suffer the extreme weather in Spain, September 2019.

On Thursday, a 61-year-old man and his 51-yr old sister died on when their vehicle was swept aways powerful fast-moving waters.

The Residents of Orihuela, a population of 33,943 inhabitants at the beginning of 2013 in a town located at the bottom of the Sierra de Orihuela mountains in the province of Alicante, Spain.

Residents were stranded on Thursday after the storms, caused by heavy torrential rains, swept cars away and blocked roads throughout the area.

A British family and there 2 young children were rescued by the Spanish Army after they became trapped in their villa for over 10 hours following the flooding caused by Spains worst storms in decades.

The owner of the villa, Paul Spencer from Doncaster explained how the basement of his property became “completely submerged within half an hour“, following a Wait of 8 hours until the military arrived at the scene.

Hundred of residents across the Alicante province were left stranded as the “Cold Drop” flooded their homes.

“All my warmth and solidarity for the people affected by the Spain Floods,” – Prime minister Pedro Sanchez says.

“All Together, we will deploy all our resources and aid to help the population and return things to normal.”

In Murcia, Schools suspended classes, as expecting the heavy rains to continue.

In the announcement of the the closure of the Schools in Murcia, Martin Vidal also warned that there could possible well be “other alternative measures” may be arranged.

Both Almería & Valencia remain on red alert for heavy rainfall and storms, with between 60 and 90 millimeters expected to fall in an hour or less, and more than 200 millimeters in total.

Also Alicante and Murcia with more than 300, 000 students are staying home for the third day.

Winds gusting up to 100km/h ripped through coastal towns on and triggered three small tornado’s in Xábia, Dénia and Guardamar.

Over 500 people have been evacuated in the Murcia province, and in Almería, the army is helping rescue around 70 people from a flooded campsite in Cabo de Gata national park.

In Murcia, over 500 people were evacuated as the extreme winds and torrential rainfall struck the city whilst inn Xábia, Dénia and Guardamar, 100 km/hr winds ripped through the coastal town sparking tornado’s and heavy down pour.

The torrential downpours caused rivers to burst their banks across Alicante, dragging people and cars away.

The flooding streets forces thousands from their homes, destroying at least 300,000 hectares of prime agricultural land with the army, police and fire services helping rescue around over 80 people from a flooded campsite in Cabo de Gata national site as well as the wildlife.

Public transport company Renfe who operate the Spanish railways announce that it stopped its service at 8. 30am on Fri on its mid-distance trains to or from , Alicante, Murcia and Valencia.

Many roadways have recently been partially closed, including the AP-7 toll road and the A-31, as well as nearly 40 regional streets across South East Spain.

In the next few days, the “Cold Drop” is expected to move west towards Portugal which could mean heavy rain for the countries capital Madird.
